Why You Should Never Touch Hospital Elevator Buttons

The journal Open Medicine recently studied hospital elevator buttons and came to one dirty conclusion. They carry more germs than toilets. Don’t even think about pressing those buttons. The study gives one key stat:

The prevalence of colonization (with bacteria) of elevator buttons was 61 percent. On the toilets, it was 43 percent.

Before you reach out to press that button next time, just imagine everyone and their diseased fingers spreading who knows what germs all over them. Then know that running your hand over the public toilet would actually be more hygienic.

Avoid these germs by using your elbow to press those buttons or use hand sanitizers immediately afterwards.
