Dash My Wig! I’ve Never Seen Victorian-Era Girls With Tattoos Until Now

In Victorian times, women had very little rights. Once married, the law viewed them as the property of men. What women earned they gave to men. What personal property they had belonged to men. The royalty even disallowed women to wear makeup. If any of these women in the photos below showed up in society, there might have been lots of fainting going on.

Artist Jessica Harrison adds some color to Victorian society by painting tattoos onto these porcelain figurines. They make up her current exhibition in Paris, France entitled “Flash”. Jessica uses her art to “explore the position of the tattoo within the skin space.” We think these figurines look amazing.
