John Woo slated to direct “Caliber”

/ /

Radical Comics has a comic out called “Caliber” which sets the legend of King Arthur in the American Old West. From the Radical Comics website:

The Knights of the Round Table are all gunslingers bound by a code of honor to protect the weak and defend the innocent until they are undone from within by their own moral corruption. In this tale, Caliber itself is a tattooed six-gun, given to Arthur by the Indians and imbued with supernatural power. The secret of the gun is that it is never loaded with bullets, but when a man with Justice on his side is holding it, it can fire. When it does, it fires Thunder itself and never misses.

Variety Asia reports John Woo, in a partnership with Johnny Depp’s company, will direct the movie adaptation of “Caliber”. Cool. So, more slo-mo bullets from Woo. Some sort of major announcement will be made at next week’s Comic Con 2008, the largest comics convention. Maybe Johnny Depp as the lead? That would be out of this world. Hopefully, it’ll turn out better than Face/Off.

Casting news for “Shanghai”

/ /

Never heard of Shanghai? Chomp on this.

“Shanghai,” an Asian “Casablanca,” stars [John] Cusack as an American spy who comes to Japanese-occupied Shanghai during World War II to investigate the death of a friend.

While he unravels the mysteries of the death, he stumbles across a much larger secret that his own government is hiding.

He also becomes entangled in a three-sided romance involving a Shanghai woman (Gong Li) and a mobster (Chow Yun Fat).

Add to the mix, Vu Thu Phuong. Vu will play “a Chinese supermodel and spy who has a strong personality.” Chinese, Vietnamese, whatever, they’re all the same. Not much info on Vu, just that she’s part actress, part model and full time hottie. According to Thanh Nien Daily, Vu starred in some Vietnamese tv and films. Actually, I should say film, because they only mentioned one.

Vu scored big, not just landing a role. The Weinstein brothers, mega Hollywood producers, also hired her to be the Vietnam rep for their company. Let this be a lesson for you struggling Hollywood types. With perseverance, some luck and oh, a hot body and pretty face, you too can make it in Hollywood. (Blow jobs are optional, though highly recommended).

Not everyone loves “Kung Fu Panda”

Kung Fu Panda has so disturbed one person in the China that he’s taking his disgust to court. Zhao Bandi, a painter and designer whose works include pandas, wants Dreamworks to apologize for their exploitation of a “national treasure”.

“I want Dreamworks to explain to me why the panda Po has green eyes,” Zhao wrote on his blog. “A green eye is evil, and that’s definitely not a Chinese panda.” He also wanted an explanation as to why Po’s father is a duck instead of a panda.

… Zhao has been calling for a boycott of the film, saying it “exploits China’s ‘national treasure’ and its martial arts.”

Evidently, the concept of a “cartoon” doesn’t register with this guy. Neither do the concepts of “fiction” or “imagination”. Green eyes? Ducks? If he cares so much, he would ask how a panda even knows kung fu.

People are calling this guy an opportunist. Sure seems like it. More interesting is that China has progressed to the point that they now have freedom to file frivolous lawsuits. Yay! Just like America. Less time to worry about unpatriotic activities and reeducation camps, more time to worry about green eyed pandas.

Seo In Young still popular

/ /

And still reminds me of a collie. You can’t argue with that body though. She needs to accessorize in the future. Perhaps some round, hoop earrings under a protective paper bag. She strikes me as such a tomboy. Just look at the way she sits. Is that proper for women? It’s like she just ate an extra large burrito and needs to help her stomach digest it. Please, close your legs. Yeah great, you have a big penis, we know. Stop bragging. If you look closely, you can see she hangs to the right.

Lee Hyori’s new album blowing up the internets

/

I just listened/watched Hyori’s new video for “U-Go-Girl”. That’s five minutes of my life I’ll never get back. I have this really guilty feeling right now. Kind of like when you swear off burgers for a couple of weeks, but break down and end up at Fatburger with half a beef patty wedged in your mouth. Yes, I would like fries with that, thank you very much.

Hyori’s new song works best on mute. Half the song is filled with her calling out “baby baby baby girl” or “that that that girl”. If I hear that line one more time, I’m going to drop kick kick kick my monitor out the window-dow-dow.

Evidently, I’m the only one feeling this way. MNnet.com reported:

After U-Go-Girl was released on the internet, it became Cyworld’s Best Seller Top 500 number one for 14, 15 July. On the charts for 15th, Hey Mr. Big was no.9, Lesson was no.10, Do You Think It’ll Be Ok? was no.25, Sexy Boy was no.37, Red Car was no.38, Unrivaled Lee Hyori was no.40, My Life was no.46, 8 songs were ranked in the Top 50s of Cyworld chart.

What this tells me is that Cyworld’s charts must be a sad, sad collection of horrible songs. Someone should get Hyori a muzzle for Christmas. Or a red ball gag.

Anthony Kim gunning for the British Open

/

Now that Tiger Woods is out with a knee injury, everybody wants to fill the void. If you listen to the pros, Anthony Kim has a good shot at usurping Woods. Fourteen majors may be a stretch, but Kim will try to start his streak at the British Open this week.

LA Times recently wrote about Kim. The kid’s only 23 and has two wins already under his belt. Take that Michelle Wie! Digression: what is up with Michelle Wie? Everyone was up her butt about her skills. She flamed out and landed at Stanford. Now, she’s trying to work her way back. Maybe her role model should be Anna Kournikova. A player with above average skills, but never able to win it all. Yet, saved by their beauty.

Supposedly, Anthony Kim has the best chance in following Tiger’s footsteps. Hot Swedish girl is optional.
