My Sassy Girl trailer released

/

My Sassy Girl, the remade American version, has finished production and a trailer was recently unleashed upon the world. Let me say. Elisha Cuthbert and Jesse Bradford are not Jun Ji-hyun and Cha Tae-Hyun. Based on the trailer, the remade version will pale in comparison to the original. What a surprise. Hollywood takes another Asian film and strips away its essence. My Sassy Girl’s popularity resulted from its sweet and innocent characters. This appeals to the Asian crowd. Think Hello Kitty, Doraemon, Asian consumers love that stuff.

Can you imagine someone in Alabama or Florida feeling the same way? Perhaps. You do have Miley Cyrus, Raven, etc. In general though, most of us wouldn’t “get” it. It’s what happens when you grow up on the streets like I did. We ain’t lookin’ for sweet, we lookin’ for da hoes! Ya know!!

Would it kill Hollywood to put at least a couple of Asian leads in these films? C’mon, throw the Asians a bone. Last time I checked, Asians went to movies also. From what I’ve heard, they also shop at malls, fall in love, stress about work and act just like you and me. At least that’s what my marketing research has told me.

But, hopefully, this remake does do well. If only to create more interest in the original My Sassy Girl.
