Kim Yun-jin and Jackie Chan attend Hallyuwood Start Festival

The Korean government in the Gyeonggi Province dreamed up a great moneymaking idea. A Korean-flavored Universal Studios that spans 990,000 square meters (0.38 square miles to the metrically challenged). Kim, Sun Kwon from “Lost”, and Jackie Chan attended the Hallyuwood Start Festival, which marks the beginning of construction for the theme park named, surprise!, Hallywuwood.

According to Digital Chosunilbo, Hallyuwood features “a variety of tourist facilities such as studios where Korean soap operas and films are made, entertainment facilities, museum, shops, Korean cooking classes and restaurants”. Naturally, we all think of Jackie Chan when we think of Korea. Remember that movie where he travels to Korea as an international spy? Neither do I. Because it never happened. Jackie Chan must’ve been the biggest Asian star they could find who had an opening in their schedule.

And why do they need a theme park? Tourists don’t need to travel there to soak up Korean food, entertainment and shopping. Helloooo, they’re in Korea. You don’t go to Mexico and eat Taco Bell. You keep it real and buy from a streetside vendor. Then, you spend the next 2-3 hours crouched over a hotel toilet while your girlfriend continually bangs on the door and screams that you’re “ruining her vacation”.
