Mary Brandon took this selfie to show the world what happens when you stand up for yourself. While at the Notting Hill Carnival in England, she told a random guy to stop groping her. The guy didn’t take too kindly to her request and pummeled her in the face.
A man in the crowd grabbed my arse. When I told him not to he did it again.
I pushed him away, exercising my right to tell a man to stop touching my body without my permission, so he took a swing at me and punched me in the face.
What kind of world is it when you get disrespected and then end up getting beat up like this. If only people showed each other more respect, we wouldn’t have to end up with photos like this.
Brandon posted the photo on her Facebook page and a fellow user, Hannah Dart, also added:
On my way home from carnival an amazing woman told me she’d had a broken bottle held up to her face when she’d yelled at a man for grabbing her friends boobs.
People will feel emboldened to act out like this if they don’t face consequences. Police are currently investigating the case, but that doesn’t take away what happened to Brandon. Yet, she still has a strong spirit.
I’d take a punch again from this loser or any other loser who thinks it’s OK to treat women like this.
Kudos to Brandon for standing up for herself. It’s unfortunate that people find it so hard to show each other simple respect.
