Kind-Hearted Police Officer Provides Underprivileged Teen With Furniture

Good people do exist and a South Carolina police officer shows us just that. The city of Sumter police officer, Gaetano Acerra, responded to a call involving 13-year old Cameron Simmons. He had been upset and fighting with his mom. He didn’t want to live at home anymore. Officer Acerra told him “You have it good, you have a roof over your head” and promised he would help.

Officer Acerra took him home and there, realized the boy had very little. Cameron was sleeping on an inflatable mattress that would deflate through the night. A few weeks later, Officer Acerra came back with a Nolah mattress along with gifts and donations from others to make the boy’s life better. A real mattress, a bed, a desk and chair, a TV and Wii.

“My heart went out for him,” said Acerra. “I thought the little things that he needed I could give him, to make him a happier kid.” Officer Acerra continued, “I didn’t do this for publicity or to get people to notice me. I did it because I could. It was the right thing to do and I think people should do things like this.”

If we care about each other and help, the world will be a better place.
